JTLR is the first full length project by alternative hip hop artist Jister and producer The Lion Ranger. It follows their debut EP "Absurdism", a 6 track piece based on Albert Camus’ essay; The Myth of Sisyphus.
The pair started making music together in 2014 when their Absurdism EP and accompanying single "Now That You" garnered the attention of UK hip hop legend Scroobius Pip. From that the duo were invited on two dates of his Speech Development Records Tour, supporting US hip hop artist B.Dolan and WarrenPeace at The Kazimier in Liverpool and The Wardrobe in Leeds. Each song was performed to sold out crowds and the pair gained a new set of eager fans in the process, leading to gigs around the country in the following years.
JTLR is their debut album and combines the multi syllabic, northern and often abstract vocal poetry of Jister with the bass heavy, dark and distinguished soundscapes provided by The Lion Ranger. There is a clear evolution on this record from the last EP with a more mature and full neo-noir sound, with stories and themes based around complex topics such as mental health, suicide, politics, relationships and the inevitable zombie apocalypse all tackled in this 11 track piece.
With a front cover and two page spread in NARC. Magazine to support the album, as well as performances lined up with the likes of New York based Princess Nokia in May, Evolution Emerging Festival and The Music Box Festival later this year, the pair hope to use JTLR as a way of progressing and building on the success of Absurdism, attracting interest from around the world as well as locally.
The album production, mixing and mastering comes entirely from The Lion Ranger with all vocals bar one feature verse coming from Jister. JTLR will be released on May 5th and will be available both physically and online at jistermusic.bandcamp.com/album/JTLR and also available at Sound It Out Records in Teesside.
