RappinAssWillz is a
Hip Hop artist out of Saginaw, MI
After spending 10
years dropping several mixtapes and songs on the underground scene he has
learned the in's and out's of this game.
First signed to New Trend/Columbia as an
artist/writer he took his skills right out of high school and started to record
his debut album "LISTEN".
After recording over
50 records Willz was anxious to release his first LP when everything came
crashing down. Willz ended up having some legal woes that would end up putting
him on house arrest for close to a year. In that time his business relationship with
New Trend started to fade to non existent.
After a couple years of odd jobs and hustles even taking acting
and business classes at SVSU. He got in touch with his younger brother Coach
Jae-R, a Manager/Engineer who was playing College football in Grand Rapids at
the time. After telling him his situation and where he wanted to go the two
came together to started Da League Entertainment in 2006. The two went straight
to work with C-Will recording over 100 songs in his new studio with Jae-R
engineering his sessions.
"I knew he could be
big even before we worked together, dude would write a whole 16 in 15
minutesand it would be crazy! Plus he was a good hook writer which is very rare
but I figured it came from him writing R&B songs, I mean dude had 10 to 20
books filled up with rhymes, he had that passion"-Coach Jae R said in
November 2011to Ill Magazine.
Willz started to press
his music up for sell but it was easier said than done.
Things weren't moving like he wanted it to be so in 09 he
decided to do a mixtape album with 21 tracks all original music titled "Okay I'm Reloaded" off his
new imprint Da League Entertainment.
Taking the "the
first one is on me" approach Willz team hit the streets with
posters,t-shirts, fliers and also 5000 cd's which he gave away for FREE. The
project became a regional success garnering over 3000 downloads online and also
his single "Chevy Bangin" featuring RJ Maine from Texas becoming a
local hit and used for a radio station promotion.
PJButta.Com later picked up the single which it was rated a 4.5
out 5 and received over 5000 downloads on the site. Willz took the road and
toured constantly hitting up any place that will let him showcase his skills
and also network. At this time Willz was ask to co headline at a annual
festival in his hometown of Saginaw, MI with MC Breed being the Honorary Guest.
While Performing the record "What it Do" off his "Okay I'm
Reloaded" mixtape, MC Breed heard the performance and rushed to the stage
to greet Willz and wanted him to work on a couple of songs for a album he was
putting together, the two exchange contacts, and were set to work together in
the upcoming months. Unfortunately MC Breed ended up passing away that November
from Kidney Failure, leaving the whole Hip Hop community Saddened losing not
only a Michigan Pioneer but one of Hip Hop's Greats.
Willz continued to move rapidly through the Michigan underground
scene, building up relationships in pretty much every city in Michigan that has
a Hip Hop Scene. This ended up becoming very valuable when One of the members
of his team Peezy started to promote parties, later on Huge Concerts at MSU,
CMU, U of M and other big venues through out the state. At the same time Willz
would get to open up also network with other industry power players.
In November of 2010 Willz
got together with Lansing producer/DJ and 1/3 of the now We The Best Music
Group production team "The Chemist" and released his highly acclaimed
mixtape "Monsta Muzik: The Prequel.
Taking a note from his own book, Willz decided to also give this
one away free, which led to him being recognized by industry greats, Jazze Pha,
Mos Def, Scarface etc.
The mixtape was released
on Black Friday, and was well recieved garnering over 10,000 downloads
from several Hip Hop sites, also he gave away 5000 physical copies and this
time around he toured tremendously doing up to 4 shows a week. Willz has opened
for DJ Drama, Kevin Gates, Chevy Woods, Berner, Gucci Mane, Mc Breed, Bonecrusher,
2 pistols, Big Sean, Wiz Khalifa, Kid Ink, Stalley and the list goes on. The
song "Good Girl" off his "Monsta Muzik: The Prequel"
mixtape was picked up on satellite radio. This has led to him also commanding
his own shows also sharing the closer of the show spot with Dr.Dre's New
Aftermath Signee Jon Connor.
In December 2014 Willz
Released his digital/online only 10 track mixtape titled
"1990Sumthin" an ode to the old school where he did over hip hop
classics ranging from Scarfaces "Mary Jane" to Erykah Badu's "On
& On, the mixtape was well received, and gained Willz exposure outside of
Michigan gaining new fans from down south, the west coast even extending to the
UK.
Right now Willz is hard at work touring and also working on 3
new mixtapes "The Purple Tape aka The Crack Era: Side A" and
"The Purple Tape aka 7 Day Theory: Side B which is a 2 Part Series to be
released 7 days apart. Also his highly anticipated series MM2 (Monsta Muzik 2:
